Portland Trail Blazers Coach Terry Stotts did his best, but in the end he was unsuccessful. Armed with gifts including a hat and a team poster, Stotts tried to get the attention of young cancer patient Jesse Terry. The draw of the video game was too strong and Stotts had to settle for a quick glimpse from the glowing screen. Damian Lillard didn't do much better, but I do believe they had something to do with the huge grin on little Terry's face.
It was an afternoon filled with smiles, pictures and autographs for the families and patients as the Trail Blazers players, coaches and executives spent their afternoon at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital as part of NBA Cares Season of Giving. The NBA and its teams and players will be out in their communities hosting hundreds of charitable events across the country in an effort to brighten the holidays for thousands of children and families.
